'Coal in their Veins'
Summary
A collaboration between myself and Ora Film’s Dalit Merhav, ‘Coal in the Veins’ is a story of survival and resilience.
‘Coal In Their Veins’ will highlight the devastation the closure of the coal pits had on mining communities, which is still felt today.
Initially brought on as the writer of this project and later as 1st AD and Producer, my involvement was from start to finish.
Shot on location in Yorkshire, the film authentically tells the story of a young man and his mother’s journey through his addiction.

The Concept
When work for miners dried up, families lost their livelihoods. As the children of the Miner’s Strike came of age, they turned to drugs where work and hope was no longer.
The film was told through the personal experience a mother and her son in the grip of heroin addiction based on the true story told by True North in the mid-200s. We face the daily struggles of addiction, the depth of a mother’s love for her child, and witness an unexpected turn of events, and hope for other families coping with similar experiences of addiction.
